Updated: 7:05am – The Vodafone Fiji Bati will now face the daunting task of overcoming the Kangaroos in next weekend’s Brisbane semi‑final of the Rugby League World Cup.

Defending champions Australia thumped Samoa 46‑0 in Friday night’s quarter‑final in Townsville while Fiji Bati ended a miserable New Zealand run at the Rugby League World Cup, downing the Kiwis 4‑2 last night.

Fiji’s defence, largely untested during an unbeaten pool run, held well against the Kiwis.

Fiji Bati Skipper, Kevin Naiqama was awarded the man‑of‑the‑match for his performance, but he credited his teammates for their efforts in securing a spot in the semi‑finals.

Naiqama said that defensive effort had been a work in progress all week, and it was satisfying to see the hard work pay off.

The Vodafone Fiji Bati will now play Australia in the semifinal at 10pm next Friday.
Meanwhile, England will face on PNG in the last quarterfinal at 6 tonight, the winner of this match will then take on Tonga in the Semifinal.
