He was heavily guarded by family members, friends and a Fiji Rugby Union senior staff member when he arrived at the Sigatoka courthouse.

According to police, the incident allegedly occurred at Olosara last Saturday. The sevens player was allegedly part of a drinking party before the incident occurred.

He was arrested and charged on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a The Fiji Times photojournalist was threatened by family members and friends of the player.

Photojournalist Reinal Chand said he met a threatening and verbally abusive crowd outside the court house.

“One of them grabbed my camera bag and tried to block my entry,” he said.

“He told me not to take pictures.”

The case will be recalled at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court on New Year’s Eve.
