The father had allegedly thrown his four children in the Labasa River on Monday night before jumping into the river.

Police recovered the body of the 4-year-old boy from the Labasa river yesterday.

The eldest child who is a 10‑year‑old was the only one who managed to swim to safety after he was allegedly thrown into the river.

Police are yet to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It is alleged that the man was having relationship problems and decided to take this step.

Meanwhile 49-Year-old Saida Bi says her grandchildren left home with her son at about 5pm Monday.

Saida says her son, 38-year-old Mohammed Khaiyum told her that he was taking the children to Labasa Town.

She told that Khaiyum threw the 10-year-old son into the river first followed by the other children.

Saida says when he threw the 10-year-old, the son was able to hold onto a rope and went and hid behind the boat.

He then tried to save his siblings however he could not do much as his siblings failed to resurface.

The shocked 10-year-old boy then went in the boat near the Labasa Market and some people then helped him out.
