On May 6th last year, Khan tried to drown her four-year-old daughter by driving her car off the road near Kasavu, Nausori. When this failed, she then jumped into the Rewa River with the child tied to her.

While taking the stand, Khan had admitted that she was in total control of the vehicle she drove, before jumping into the Rewa River with her daughter.

Khan also said she was in an abusive relationship with her husband.

Khan revealed that she got married at the age of 16 and when she started working, she had an affair with an accountant because she was unhappy with her married life.

Khan testified that because of her relationship with another man, she and her husband argued on the day of the incident.

That was when her husband served her papers stating he wanted full custody of all three children.

During her sentencing and mitigation hearing, her counsel had asked the court to consider Khan’s troublesome married life and her circumstances.

He also asked the court not to impose a minimum term as they will be able to make an application to the Mercy Commission.

The prosecution asked for a minimum term highlighting that the range is from 26 to 11 years.

The state also said that Khan did not show any remorse.

Khan will be sentenced at 2.30pm.
