Fiji: No reconciliation for the Supply of Free Milk: Auditor General

The inability of schools to submit delivery dockets for the free milk program resulted in the Education Ministry being unable to reconcile its books.

The Auditor General’s report highlights that the Ministry paid over two point four million dollars for the supply and distribution of free milk in 2015.

The report says in the absence of proper reconciliations being carried out, there is a high risk of payment for milk which was not supplied.

It recommends the Ministry should ask all schools to submit receipts and alternatively, advise the supplier to submit copy of signed delivery docket with invoice for payment.

The Ministry says it was agreed that as deliveries were made to schools or drop off points, dockets will be signed by the head teachers and attached to the invoices when submitted for payments.

The Ministry says they take into account the OAG comments and will ensure proper reconciliation is done by the team.
