The Fijian Legends side will b`e led by 7s wizard Waisale Serevi, Sireli Bobo and Rupeni Caucaunibuca. The FRU is bidding to host a leg of the World Sevens Series in 2020 and is trying to maximise publicity.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase our talents and provide publicity for our country,” O’Connor said. “We need to pull our resources together if we are to convince World Rugby.

“Our Fijian Legends playing the Classic Wallabies before the Fiji Airways Drua-Perth Spirit match is a good opportunity.” FRU commercial management manager Brian Thorburn is determined many Fijians will sign up for the Fiji For 7s bid campaign.

“We have been getting good feedbacks. Once we get 50,000, we will target 100,000. We will have volunteers during the NRC games giving out flyers so we want people to come in and say ‘io’(yes),” Thorburn said.

The Fijian Drua team takes on Melbourne Rising in the second round on Saturday at Harlequins Oval in Melbourne.

The Fijians will then play their first home game on September 16 when they host NSW Country Eagles at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
