UPDATED: 6:50am – High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo has found 42-year-old Livai Lino charged with killing a man in 2013 guilty.

He concurred with the three assessors that all returned with a guilty opinion in the last hour. Lino is charged with one count of murder.

He stabbed 42-year-old Ashwin Lal to death with a kitchen knife outside a shopping complex adjacent to Namotomoto Village in Nadi in 2013.

In his summing up, High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo said that Lino is a former patient of St Giles hospital and would always roam around Nadi Town.

Justice Temo also said that Lino pleaded guilty to one count of murder but denied that he intended to cause death and he chose to remain silent and called no witnesses.

The Judge said the accused fled the scene after stabbing the man.

Lino will be sentenced today.
