Updated: 6:41am – A 46‑year‑old man charged with rape has been remanded by the Suva Magistrates Court.
It is alleged that the man raped a 29-year-old woman on the 22nd of this month in Vatuwaqa in Nanuku Settlement.

The Defence lawyer informed the court that the accused had come back from a grog session and had consumed alcohol after which he allegedly met up with the victim and had committed the offence.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Farook Mohammed objected to bail and informed the court that the victim was treated in an inhumane manner and was also threatened by the accused.
Magistrate Waleen George has transferred the matter to the Suva High Court.
The case has been adjourned to the 9th of April
