Update: 7:26 am – Three months ago, a Paris court annulled the contract of the company running the airport ADT after finding that the 30-year contract had been signed in 2010 despite objections by the commune of Faa’a where the airport is located.

The court ordered the French state to terminate the deal within 12 months, saying the contract had been awarded without first going out to tender.

Mr Fritch told the minister that the airport was vital for the tourist industry and a matter of concern for the communities served by ADT, which include some outer islands.

He was seeking clarifications about the French thinking on the issue.
