Updated: 8:46am – The number of homes and businesses still without power in Auckland after Tuesday’s storm is now 3,000.

Vector says its crews are working around the clock trying to get everyone reconnected as soon as possible.

But it says repairs to lines to more remote communities like Piha, Bethell’s Beach, Riverhead and Kaukapakapa are difficult.

In those areas, lines have to be repaired section by section and the extent of the damage to each section can’t be identified until crews get to it.

Vector says it’s been hard to give accurate power restoration times for those areas as a result.

It’s likely some of those areas will be waiting until mid-next week for their power to come back on.

Civil Defence said it made more than 2,000 welfare checks in the Auckland region yesterday and will continue checking on affected Aucklanders today.
