Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Maretino Qiolevu says there has been a lot of opposition to the work of traffic officers who conduct radar operations.

Qiolevu says it has even led to drivers setting up Viber groups to warn other drivers about the location of officers, particularly along the Suva ‑ Nadi highway.

He says drivers need to understand that traffic officers are there to enforce the law as the speeding limit has been set for everyone’s safety.

Qiolevu says two fatalities have been recorded in February where two women died in separate accidents.

He says 24 people lost their lives to speeding in 2016, 43 in 2015 and 36 in 2014.
