Yalalevu is one of the worst-hit areas in the Western Division.

The Advisory Councillor for Yalalevu, Mohammed Hilal says people in this densely populated area had recently rebuilt their homes after Tropical Cyclone Winston but all of it is now covered with mud.

Hilal says the situation was beyond control and nobody could be blamed for the massive damage in their area as flood waters quickly rose in a short period of time.

He says they have had electricity from yesterday but water pressure is low and as a result people are facing difficulties in washing their houses.

Hilal says surveys have started and some organisations are working with relevant government authorities to provide basic help like food rations.
