Former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum
State counsel Nancy Tikoisuva has accused former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum of presenting a false document and claiming he has no intention of returning to Fiji.
Sayed-Khaiyum has requested a bail variation to travel to Singapore for a crucial medical review and treatment. During cross-examination, Tikoisuva questioned the necessity of this travel, to which Sayed-Khaiyum responded that many advanced procedures, such as robotic surgery, are not available in Fiji.
Inspector Suliasi Dulaki, a key figure in the case, did not verify the documents presented by Sayed-Khaiyum regarding his medical records. During re-examination, Dulaki admitted that he had stated in his affidavit that Sayed-Khaiyum was a flight risk and would likely not return to Fiji, recommending that the bail variation application be dismissed.
Sayed-Khaiyum’s immigration arrival card revealed that he had been away for a month and had gone to Bangladesh for business. The arrival card also showed that Sayed-Khaiyum’s reason for returning to Fiji is business-related, and he intends to return to Bangladesh on November 3rd, 2024.
Suva magistrate Yogesh Prasad questioned Dulaki on the time frame when Sayed-Khaiyum was in Bangladesh, to which he responded that the information was provided by Immigration officials.
