Labasa Airport is currently undergoing a major upgrade to its runway pavement as part of a project funded by the World Bank’s $10 million initiative for five outer island airports.
This initiative reflects our commitment to improving the airport’s infrastructure. The project also includes upgrades to Savusavu airport and airstrips in Matei on Taveuni, Lakeba, and Rotuma.
The work in Labasa has already commenced and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Additionally, a new terminal building will be constructed in the coming weeks.
The World Bank has also identified a potential piece of land at Labasa Airport for commercial or leasing purposes. Furthermore, the project involves improved aviation facilities, including remote towers and airport rescue and fire-fighting facilities.
The new terminal will be able to accommodate the current demand for the next five to ten years. Flame Tree Development Fiji Ltd has been awarded a $10 million contract to conduct pavement maintenance projects at Labasa and the other four airports.
