A woman from New Zealand was killed in the US after being robbed and run over by a car outside a California shopping mall.
The incident occurred at the Fashion Island Mall in Newport Beach, where the suspects fled after the robbery. The 69-year-old victim and her husband were robbed outside the Barnes and Noble before the suspects got into a white car and ran over the woman, resulting in her death.
The suspects then drove away, prompting police to open fire and leading to a high-speed pursuit across county lines, with speeds reaching almost 180km/h before their apprehension.
The Newport Beach Fire Department confirmed that the woman was found dead in a parking lot just outside the shopping center. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a deceased individual and a panicked crowd following the sound of gunshots.
Paramedics administered CPR at the scene, and witness Case Burnett described the chaotic scene as 20-30 people came running around the corner, yelling about gunshots, causing widespread panic.
Witnesses stated they heard three to four gunshots before seeking cover. Residents were urged to avoid the area as the police conducted their investigation.
A witness posted about the incident on social media, describing that a shooting had occurred between the Starbucks and Whole Foods at the Fashion Island mall.
