A man has been arrested for multiple shoplifting charges, including an incident where he attempted to steal 241 Whittakers chocolate blocks from a South Auckland supermarket.

The offender managed to leave the store with 241 blocks valued at $1349.60. Fortunately, security staff were able to lock the trolley, which the offender tried to drag before it tipped over.

All the stolen items were recovered before he could get away. The 37-year-old has been charged with multiple counts of burglary and shoplifting. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Papakura District Court on 8 July.

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old woman was arrested for stealing over $21,000 worth of goods from various supermarkets across Tāmaki Makaurau.

She is set to appear in Manukau District Court on Thursday, facing a staggering 20 shoplifting charges.
