Goundar Shipping’s owner and managing director, George Goundar, has promised to implement improved tactics to combat drug trafficking on the Kadavu route.
He stressed the importance of stringent procedures in the maritime industry to prevent drug-related activities.
Goundar has dismissed nearly 18 crew members for their alleged involvement in drug sales on remote islands and has called for mandatory drug testing for all crew members.
He has also called for increased transparency on board the vessels, a move that aims to build trust and confidence in the maritime industry.
Sailasa Boteanakadavu, the chair of the Kadavu Crime Prevention Committee, has echoed the need for collaborative efforts to address the issue.
Goundar Shipping and the Kadavu Crime Prevention Committee are working together to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and security of Fiji’s maritime routes.
