An Air New Zealand plane, NZ125, headed to Melbourne, was turned around yesterday due to a minor technical issue.

Passengers on board were traveling from Auckland to Melbourne when the decision was made to return to Auckland for assessment.

The flight crew circled the plane before landing to meet weight requirements, a standard safety protocol.

Captain David Morgan, Air New Zealand’s chief operational integrity and safety officer, stated that passengers on board were not at risk of injury.

To ensure their safety, the flight crew had to rebook passengers onto the next available service, as is standard procedure in such cases.

FlightRadar24 reported that the plane had performed multiple loops off the coast west of Auckland before landing.
