NFA is currently investigating five recent residential fires

Over the past week, five residential fires have left around 20 people homeless in Fiji.

The National Fire Authority reported a structural fire at the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s compound in Naidovi. A two-bedroom corrugated iron and timber house was fully engulfed in flames.

The house, owned by Eco Trax, was vacant at the time of the fire, and the property sustained 95% damage, estimated at $25,000. On Tuesday, a house fire was reported along Gaji Road, leaving 6 adults and 2 children homeless.

On Tuesday, 4 people in Burenitu Village in Ra were left homeless after their property sustained 95% damage, valued at $25,000. On Wednesday, a house in Burelevu Village in Ra and another house in Uciwai Sangam School in Nadi were destroyed, leaving 11 people homeless.

CEO Puamau Sowane warned homeowners and tenants to secure their properties and ensure everything is in order when leaving their homes for work or attending functions.

He emphasized that electrical wiring remains a leading cause of structural fires in Fiji, and urged people to call the 910 toll-free line for a timely response in case of fire or other emergencies.
