Family of four in Cunningham has lost everything in a devastating fire

A family of four in Cunningham Stage 1, Fiji, tragically perished in a fire that consumed their corrugated iron and timber home.

In her 60s, the woman lived with her son, grandson, and a church pastor. The fire started between 1 and 2 pm and spread quickly.

The family left the house with only their clothes. A neighbour consoled the woman before her oldest son brought them home. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other homes.

The National Fire Authority CEO, Puamau Sowane, stated that the house was not insured and the estimated cost of damage is between $30,000 and $35,000.

Sowane emphasized the alarmingly high number of home fires and the responsibility of keeping homes fire-safe.

He advised placing mosquito coils on recommended stands and ensuring extra care for children around the house.
