Police are investigating a manhunt following the sudden death of a man at a sports ground in Blockhouse Bay, West Auckland.

The victim is believed to be linked to the local tennis club. He died from critical injuries inflicted by another person late on Saturday morning in Rathlin Street.

The investigation is in its early stages, and the police urgently seek information from the public, particularly on Rathlin Street.

The scene examination continued on Sunday, with a scene guard at the park and extra officers patrolling the suburb. Investigators will continue to speak to people in the area door-to-door.

Some police were digging through nearby mulch piles. The police support those who witnessed the incident and those who have yet to contact them.

The victim’s formal identification is expected to be completed on Sunday, and a post-mortem examination is also being carried out.
