Online scams have led to the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars for many Fijians

Other emerging scams include fake messages from Post Fiji claiming to ask for payments before collection and phishing emails.

According to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaints Centre, 847,376 complaints were filed in 2021, resulting in a total loss of USD6.9 billion.

Phishing emails were the most common scam, with an average loss per victim reaching around FJD 18,000.

The Ministry of Information and Communications, in collaboration with the Consumer Council of Fiji and the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission, has coordinated efforts to combat online fraud.

The Anti-Scam Task Force has been established nationally to enhance coordination.

Create awareness of online scams and advocate for more robust protective measures for individuals and communities.
