Police are advising against vigilante behaviour following an alleged attempted kidnapping

Police in Porirua are urging people not to engage in “vigilante behaviour” following reports of an attempted kidnapping.

The incident occurred earlier this week, where a man attempted to get a woman into a black van.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Middlemiss said officers have investigated the incident extensively.

They are yet to establish what occurred fully.

He also noted that social media posts encouraging “vigilante behaviour” are concerning.

Middlemiss urged the community to remember that not all online information is what it seems and asked anyone with legitimate information to call the police at 105.
