A man missing from a sunken vessel in Manukau Harbour has been found dead. The police Eagle helicopter spotted the body near Puketutu Island, where he was last seen.
The Police National Dive Squad and the Police Maritime Unit recovered him. The search began on Tuesday evening after a distress call was received.
A second person, believed to be the missing man’s nephew, managed to swim back to shore and raise the alarm.
The boat was towed back to shore by Coastguard on Tuesday night.The missing man’s niece, Lovina Fa’ukafa, said the family is still in shock.
Local iwi put A rāhui in place, covering the harbor for at least seven days.
