A 48-year-old man has been arrested in a homicide investigation following a house fire in Whangārei earlier this year.
The fire occurred on April 29 at 3 am, and the sole occupant, Hoani Reuben, died. Police arrested the man and charged him with arson.
He was remanded in custody and will appear in the Whangārei District Court on September 16.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Clayton said inquiries will continue into the homicide, and further charges cannot be ruled out.
Police acknowledged the public’s assistance during the investigation and thanked everyone who called or came into a station to provide information.
