Bangladesh cricket tour cancelled following shootings

The third test between the Black Caps and Bangladesh, scheduled to start tomorrow at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval has been cancelled, following the shootings in the city.

New Zealand Cricket and the Bangladesh board made the joint decision, meaning the tour is now over and both teams are working to get the touring side home to Bangladesh as quickly as possible.

The Bangladesh team is safe at the team hotel after being forced to flee through Hagley Park following the shooting at the nearby Deans Ave mosque.

ESPN Crincinfo’s Mohammad Isam tweeted footage of the touring side fleeing through the central Christchurch park.

They weren’t inside the mosque during the shooting, but had just arrived outside after getting off a bus.

A shocked and saddened New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White says the organisation and all of New Zealand offer their heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of the victims of the attacks.
