UPDATED: 8:17am – Confederations Cup champions Germany have been knocked off the top of the FIFA world men’s football rankings by Brazil.

In the latest list issued by football’s governing body, World Cup holders Germany drop to second despite beating Chile 1-0 in July’s Confed Cup final.

Brazil on 1604 points have overtaken Germany who are second on 1549 while Argentina remain third on 1399.

Switzerland gain a spot to fourth for their best position since 1993 and Poland also move up one to fifth. European champions Portugal slip two places to sixth.

Chile, Colombia, Belgium and France complete the top 10. Australia remain unchanged in 45th, behind Japan but ahead of Denmark.

Spain (11th), Italy (12th) and England (13th) are also unchanged. Mexico, Peru, Croatia, Uruguay, Wales, Sweden and Iceland round out the top 20.

Iran are the top Asian nation in 24th, one ahead of Egypt who are the best from Africa. Mexico lead the North, Central American and Caribbean Associations in 14th, while New Zealand are Oceania’s highest representative in 123rd.
