Bus driver who allegedly caused the death of a woman charged

Updated: 6:25am – A 59-year-old bus driver, who allegedly caused the death of a woman has appeared in the Nadi Magistrates court and has been charged with a count each of manslaughter and act with intent to cause grievous harm.

Rajendra Prasad Sharma was allegedly involved in an accident at the Nadi Bus Stand where a woman passed away last Thursday afternoon.

Magistrate Peni Delaituicama has remanded Sharma.

The case has been transferred to the Lautoka High Court and has been adjourned to next Wednesday.

Police had earlier stated that according to the information gathered the bus which was parked, suddenly started moving and crashed into the area where the woman was sitting.

Another woman is still admitted at the Lautoka Hospital ICU after sustaining injuries in the accident.

It was also confirmed the driver was in the bus when the incident occurred.
