Businesses that have not implemented minimum wage rates will face severe consequences

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has warned businesses to enforce the $4.50 minimum wage rate.

The Ministry of Employment has been tasked with conducting monitoring sessions with all division’s employers to ensure compliance.

The new minimum wage regulations, effective on 1 August 2024, raised the National Minimum Wage and sectoral wages by 50 cents.

Minister Agni Deo Singh clarified that employees must display written notices of the increased wage rates in their workplaces.

Failure to comply will result in a $100 penalty, with more severe consequences.

It also includes fines of up to $10,000 or imprisonment for continued non-compliance.
