A Canadian national, aged 27, is set to appear in court after allegedly smuggling 9.9kg of methamphetamine in his suitcase.
The 27-year-old was questioned by Customs officers who found the drug concealed in several travel cube bags.
The seizure would have been worth up to $3.5 million in street value.
It has prevented significant harm to New Zealand’s communities by stopping methamphetamine from hitting the streets.
The seizure is estimated to have prevented up to NZ$11 million worth of social harm and cost to New Zealand communities.
The defendant is charged with importation and possession for supply of a Class A controlled drug. Also needed to provide a passcode to access information on electronic devices.
