A woman was critically injured in a crash on the Hawke’s Bay Expressway on August 14. The incident took place near the Kennedy Road off-ramp around noon.
The driver was transferred to Wellington Hospital and, unfortunately, passed away on Friday. The Ministry of Transport reported 162 road deaths in 2024, a decrease from previous years.

In another incident, five people, including teenagers, were arrested following a burglary in Bethlehem, Tauranga. The group arrived in two vehicles and allegedly broke the night service window.
They entered a store, activated a fog cannon, and stole a small amount of cash. Police found one vehicle and five people nearby. Four of the five, aged 13 to 16, were referred to Youth Aid.
The fifth individual, a 23-year-old man, was charged with burglary and was scheduled to appear in Tauranga District Court.
