Update: 6:32 am – This comes after the Opposition MP Prem Singh questioned the current pay scales and asked the government to justify this.

“This is absence of the Minister’s response that – I had quoted fourteen hundred dollars that they were being paid and just because of the reduced hours they are being paid eight hundred dollars.”

Former Education Minister Mahendra Reddy clarified that the pay scales are determined by the teacher’s qualifications and merit.

“The basic training teachers be those with only high school qualification are paid $5 an hour. Those with short certificate are paid $7 an hour. Those with 1 year certificate are paid $9.30 an hour. Those with diploma are paid $11 an hour and those with a degree are paid $14 an hour.”

This debate has also revealed that degree holders in ECE receive more salaries than full time teachers.
