Updated: 8:22am – An education officer’s contract has been terminated and ten warning letters were issued after the Ministry of Education completed an investigation.

The investigation commenced earlier this year to find out the root cause of the delay of teacher’s appointments, however, the issue is now being addressed.

Minister responsible, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says systemic problems have long been entrenched within the ministry and those problems are now actively being resolved through better, more transparent policy and clearer direction for the staff involved.

Sayed-Khaiyum says it’s also very disturbing to note the release of false and misleading information.

He adds that they will ensure that the ministry serves its teachers to allow them to focus entirely on the teaching of students.

The Ministry will remain vigilant in this mission and will continue to investigate any claims that impact the wellbeing and workplace environment of teachers, while also undertaking a serious programme of reforms to tackle the underlying issues affecting teachers around the country.
