Despite the ongoing drama surrounding her personal life, Angelina Jolie won her first Tony for producing The Outsiders musical. She and Brad Pitt met in 2004 while filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith, eventually marrying in 2014 and announcing their divorce in September 2016.
Angelina requested physical custody of their six children, while Brad fought for both legal and physical guardianship. The couple was investigated by the FBI and LAPD due to alleged incidents on a flight, of which Brad was eventually cleared.
In 2017, Angelina and Brad agreed to keep all court documents private. In August 2018, Angelina accused Brad of not providing “meaningful” child support for the past year and a half, but Brad countered, stating he had paid over $9 million since their split.
In 2019, a judgment allowed Angelina and Brad to be ruled “legally single” despite their divorce not being finalized. In 2020, there were hints that the couple was coming to a more amicable arrangement for the sake of their kids.
In March 2021, court documents revealed Angelina’s intention to provide evidence against Brad in relation to a domestic violence claim. In May, Brad was granted custody of the children, which Angelina opposed. She also removed the presiding judge for not disclosing business ties with Pitt’s attorneys.
The divorce drama is now accompanied by a property dispute. Brad filed a case against Angelina for selling her portion of their 1,200-acre Chateau Miraval Winery, followed by an additional lawsuit with additional allegations in June.
The 2016 plane incident resurfaced in September, leading to a $250 million cross-complaint from Angelina’s former company. In October, Angelina doubled down on her domestic violence allegations with additional filings.
In 2023, Brad faced a series of lawsuits and cross-complaints regarding the winery. An old Instagram story from Pax Jolie-Pitt pointed out ‘despicable’ things about Brad’s family life, with excerpts stating that he had no consideration or empathy toward his four youngest children.
