Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, has exceeded expectations with a domestic opening of $56 million and a global total of $104.6 million. The film, which earned an A- CinemaScore in North America, is the fourth installment in Sony’s franchise and has a strong following among younger consumers.
The film is the second biggest domestic launch of the season, after Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which debuted at $58 million domestically. It grossed $48.6 million from 60 markets, 58% of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in like-for-like markets.
The film is the follow-up to Bad Boys for Life, which opened to $62 million domestically in January 2022 and earned $426 million at the global box office before theaters were shut due to the pandemic. The film also surpassed the budget of The Garfield Movie, which earned $10 million domestically and $15.3 million overseas. The film also surpassed the previous weekend’s box office record of $359.8 million.
