Updated: 9:05am – Two people have died in separate car crashes overnight. Police said they have pulled a body and a car out of the water at Kairaki beach in Canterbury.
They received reports the car had driven into the water at about 9.45pm last night and arrived to find the car completely underwater.

In Northland, a 67-year-old woman died after being hit by a car.
Police said they were called to State Highway 12 at Ohaeawai just after 11pm.
The serious crash unit was investigating.
