Updated: 7:38am – The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team is determined not to let the disappointment of missing out on the first Commonwealth Games gold medal to ruin their chances of a fourth World Rugby Series title in Singapore.

Coach Gareth Baber says up until the Commonwealth Games final, they had won 17 games in a row and this is something that are very proud of.

Their wins in Hamilton, Vancouver and Hong Kong had moved them from fifth to second in the overall standings.

Captain Jerry Tuwai has acknowledged the progress of his team from last season when they won just one tournament which is Hong Kong.

Tuwai adds that they have faith in Baber and his team’s ability to retain the World Series title.

Tuwai says they are putting their focus now on the World Series as they try to go past South Africa from this weekend.

Meanwhile South Africa 7s captain Kyle Brown says that it’s important that they maintain consistency and also to win a final.

Brown adds that having some of their young players that played in Hong Kong will boost their side.

The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team will take on Japan at 5.36pm this Saturday.

They will then play Russia at 9.02pm Saturday before playing their final pool match against Spain at 12.28am Sunday.

The Cup quarter finals will begin at 4.30pm Sunday, the semi finals will begin at 8.50pm Sunday while the Cup Final is at 12am Monday
