More young people are involved in serious sexual crime in Fiji.
Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator, Shamima Ali says there is an increase in reported cases over the past months but the involvement of young perpetrators is shocking.

“We are getting younger perpetrators which is not good for our society and we’re also seeing an increase in gang rape and that also is an indication of how young men are feeling and how they are taking out their frustration on the vulnerable.”
According to the Office of the Director of Public prosecutions, last month the youngest accused of rape was a 12-year-old.
