The defense lawyer for a man facing manslaughter charge has applied for bail in the Suva High court. Pio Ratuwaqa is also facing one count of driving with a concentration of alcohol beyond the excess limit present in his blood.
The state lawyer sought time to file information and disclosures as they informed the court that they just received the post mortem report on Tuesday. The state has been given time to respond to the bail application. The accident occurred along Nasese in Suva last month where Ratuwaqa allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road at Gardiner Place.
A team from the Totogo Police Station managed to rescue the driver and the passenger from the vehicle which was partially submerged in water. The female passenger was rushed to the CWM Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The matter has been adjourned to 28th of this month.
