A lawful advisor in Fiji has been charged for damaging the Public Order Act over a questionable web based life post.

Meline Buadromo is blamed for pernicious acts “with goal to make open alert, tension and alienation” after she asserted via web-based networking media that police were liable for the demise of a remand detainee a week ago.

Police denounced her online post and said the man kicked the bucket while being moved to the clinic from the adjustments office and was in this way in the care of jail authorities and not police.

Buadromo additionally asserted the casualty was captured for breaking check in time yet police said the man had been held over robbery accusations.

Four Corrections officials have since been charged over the man’s demise.

Police said two officials were accused of homicide while the other two deal with attack indictments.

Buadromo has been bailed and will be back in court on 28 May.

Demise examination

Fiji’s Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission is examining the detainee’s demise.

In an announcement, chief Ashwin Raj said any demise that happens in care was a genuine concern.

Mr Raj said claims by the casualty’s family that they were not educated regarding his passing and confinement is “vexing and comprises a ban of his privileges as a captured and kept individual”.

He said the commission is working with the rectifications division and police to discover what befell the detainee.

Cops under scrutiny

In a different episode, Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says cops are being researched over a supposed attack in the eastern division.
