FIJI NEWS:- LTA ordered to carry out consultation on new taxi permit quota and open base system.

The Fiji Taxi Association has been granted two of the five declaration orders they had sought against the Land Transport Authority in relation to the new taxi permit quota.

The Fiji Taxi Association had taken the matter to the court seeking order that the LTA liase with the association so that they could assist the regulatory body on the taxi permits required in each zones.

According to the submission filed by the Association’s lawyer Amrit Chand, there were no discussion or any proper determination by the LTA in making its determination on a particular zones reasonable quota for taxi permits.

The court has allowed two orders that LTA is to carry out a thorough consultation with all stakeholders especially with the

Fiji Taxi Association and other taxi operators to make proper determination for new taxi permit quota and open base system.

The court also allowed the declaration sought by the association that the LTA failed in consulting the Fiji Taxi Association and existing taxi permit holders to get the views and feedback on the need for a new taxi permit quota and open base system.
