Mr Bainimarama – a former RKS and Degei House boarder himself – toured the school yesterday and directed the engineers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) to construct some bunk beds for the students.

After the tour the PM held a talanoa session with the school head Pio Veivoli and Commissioner Central Josefa Navuku. He was told that RKS old scholars had arranged to bring in used mattresses for the students, mosquito nets were being sourced from the Red Cross while Save the Children Fund provided bags and stationery.

At the talanoa session the PM made calls to the Fiji Corrections Services and the Ministry of Forestry to provide the raw materials and for the RFMF engineers to make the bunk beds.

“They are having exams this week and they need all the help they can get,” the PM said.

The RKS old scholars are also gathering clothes for the students affected. Queen Victoria School Parents and Teachers Association president Filimoni Vosarogo said they had also raised some money to help the RKS students.
