Minister for National Disaster Management Jone Usamate has confirmed that seven new hydrological telemetric stations are expected to be installed next year.

Usamate says this is to closely monitor the amount of rainfall and water level in major rivers and streams across the country.

He adds Fiji currently have 40 hydrological telemetric stations in the Western, Northern and Central Division.

“And every year we are looking to add an additional 7 stations so that we can increase the coverage. So that we can keep track on the volume of rainfall that is falling all across Fiji”.

The Minister highlighted that the Fiji Meteorological Office has installed a Fiji Flash Guidance System that will allow them to keep track of the likelihood of floods.
