Police are looking into the incident where 2‑year‑old Amari Whippy got seriously injured after stray dogs attacked her in their compound at Narewa in Nadi on Friday. She had to undergo surgery. Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says officers from Nadi are looking into the incident.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the Ministry of Local Government will be working closely with local municipalities, both in Nadi where the attack occurred and throughout the country to remedy this issue by carrying out a campaign to remove any dangerous wild dogs from our communities.

He says all strays will be treated as humanely as possible, with sheltering and re‑homing options to be explored for non‑violent dogs. Bainimarama says his heart broke when he first heard about the stray dog attack on the girl.
