Updated: 7:52am – The official bid to host a leg of the 2019/2020 World Sevens Series has been submitted to World Rugby and the decision will be made on June 28.

FRU Commercial Manager and Leader of the Fiji for 7s bid Brian Thorburn believes they have ticked all the boxes and it would be hard for World Rugby to say no to Fiji.

Competing with other bigger countries such as Germany and China, Thorburn says they are not worried about other 19 countries that are bidding but are confident that with the rich background of sevens rugby in Fiji, the world would want to see what it feels like to watch an international sevens tournament in Fiji.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor says some of the major requirements that have been taken care of include Players Welfare, Accommodation, Commercial Models, Media Welfare and Medical Assistance.

Thorburn says that they will be releasing more details during the FRU Awards next Friday night.

He adds that they will have further discussions with World Rugby from now to the end of May where World Rugby officials will visit Fiji and make some more recommendations.
