Attorney General Graham Leung has emphasized the importance of a new substantive Commissioner for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) and made it his top priority. He visited FICAC staff in Suva and emphasized the importance of political neutrality, transparency, and accountability.
Leung urged legal professionals and department Heads to adhere strictly to the law and work diligently to eradicate corruption. He also emphasized the importance of using taxpayers’ money appropriately for lawful purposes, as FICAC is not a persecution agency but a body of civil servants.
He urged the Commission to focus on upholding the principles of the constitution and eradicating corruption. FICAC is recognized as an independent legal institution mandated under section 115 of the 2013 Constitution of the Republic of Fiji.
