Fiji’s Council of Social Services Executive Director, Vani Catanasiga, has revealed that children as young as ten are engaging in substance abuse, increasing their vulnerability to human trafficking.
The interplay between drug trafficking and human trafficking has been alarmingly evident, and the protection of the most vulnerable in society is demanded.
Catanasiga emphasized that peer pressure plays a significant role in exploitation, and children are at high risk when trapped in a cycle of exploitation.
The Fiji Council of Social Services has called for collective action from grassroots to national levels in the fight against human trafficking in person.
The theme for this year’s World Day Against Trafficking In Persons is “Leave No Child Behind In The Fight Against Human Trafficking.”
