In the past three days, eight individuals have been arrested in different drug operations for their alleged involvement in the sale of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu confirmed the arrests and mentioned that joint operations between Divisional Task forces and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit are ongoing.

The raids and operations are being carried out round the clock, with early morning raids leading to the discovery of white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

A 40-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning after being found with white crystals believed to be methamphetamine during a surprise roadblock along Milverton Road in Raiwaqa.

In addition, two men aged 37 and 42 were taken into custody following a raid in Vuci South, where plastic bags containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine, dried leaves believed to be marijuana and packets of syringes were seized.

On Saturday, three men in Nadi, Ba, and Tavua were arrested after being found with white substances believed to be methamphetamine and dried leaves believed to be marijuana during separate raids.

Furthermore, a 24-year-old man was taken in for criminal intimidation at the Lautoka Police Station and is also facing a possible charge of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

As Operation Yavirau continues around the country, snap checks and roadblocks will be set up.
