The Fiji Police Force is experiencing a shortage of officers because of an influx of tourists visiting the country.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu stated that the force has been operating with a ratio of one police officer to 204 Fijians, which is not sustainable.

However, the force is managed with the available human resources. Driu also noted that the number of tourists visiting Fiji every month has increased, and police officers who resign are being replaced by new recruits who complete their training programs.

There have been numerous drug-related arrests, with 72 cases recorded in the past 72 hours. Driu mentioned that the cost of meth has risen, with zip-lock packs containing powder, liquid, and ice.

He also warned that mixing meth with other substances for drug consumption could be harmful due to the presence of chemicals made by experts.
