The FijiFirst party, which is over a decade old, risks being deregistered if it does not revise its constitution by 4 p.m. tomorrow.
The Registrar of Political Parties notified FijiFirst last month, pointing out that it lacks procedures for resolving internal disputes.
Other parties have approached some FijiFirst MPs about joining them. Currently, the 26 MPs are planning to run as independent candidates, but they may reconsider this after the announcement of the 2024/2025 national budget.
The MPs are scheduled to convene today to discuss their next steps. While some FijiFirst MPs may decide to join the government, no firm decisions have been made regarding their future actions.
If a political party is deregistered and has elected representatives, those representatives will continue to serve as independents or may join other political parties.
